Sustainability in catering

When ordering corporate catering for office events and functions, the choices we make about the food, equipment, transport and materials used can have a big impact on environmental and social sustainability.

At corporate events, the use and daily disposal of plastic plates, cutlery, cups and excess food, can form a significant source of waste and have a big impact on our environment. For this reason, we believe it’s important to take some simple steps to make food and food catering services more sustainable.

Why is sustainability so important?

Why should we care about sustainability? Because it’s the right thing to do. Not just for us, but also for our customers and society as a whole.

At Order-In, we’re committed to making our world a safer, cleaner and sustainable place to live, work and play. We want to be part of the solution and one major way of achieving this is by working with our suppliers and catering partners to increase sustainability practices for all catered functions and events.

To help our customers make a better choice on sustainable catering, we have included a sustainability rating for our corporate caterers, in the form of green leaves.

This 5 leaf rating will be visible on all our caterers’ menus.

How did we assess our caterers’ sustainability rating?

Our caterers and suppliers can earn points on a set of questions as listed below. Based on their answers, they are given a score for each set of questions. A green leaf is awarded if they earn more than 50% of points for each set of questions. We also request supporting documentation from our caterers.

Use of disposable catering trays and whether they were recyclable, compostable or made from recycled or sustainable resources (4 points)

Use of disposable cutlery and whether they were recyclable, compostable or made from recycled or sustainable resources (4 points)

Use of disposable napkins and whether they were recyclable, compostable or made from recycled/sustainable resources (4 points)

Minimised use of disposable packaging (2 points)

Ingredients were sourced locally (2 points)

Utilised recycling systems within their workplace (2 points)

Any other sustainable measures implemented within their workplace (2 points)

3. Your search results will now filter to show caterers with a sustainability rating
